Ava's Tropical Dreams- A Surfer's Paradise
A SURFER'S PARADISE!🌴
Hi! Get ready to read my next blog... about surfing!
SURFING RESEARCH (by Thea for home school):
The history of surfing stared in the 12th century in Polynesia (the Polynesians found a cave carving of people riding waves.) The Polynesians spread the word to Hawaii and the sport became very popular. Then they started making boards in different shapes and sizes to try new things. The first surfboards that the Polynesians used were made out of wood, especially from the local trees such as koa and wiliwili.
Today, we have lightweight foam, carbon fiber surfboards. Surfing has become a high performance, global sport with Olympic level competition.
LEARNING TO SURF!🏄
In Guadeloupe, we arrived at a bay with incredible surf swell! Already there, were our friends who were surfing on the big waves! When we went to the beach, in the evening, our friends offered me a try on one of their surfboards, of course I said I would give it a go. As I paddled into the breaking waves, I felt a surge of excitement, I was about to try to surf! My friend and I patiently waited for a perfect wave. When one finally came, I nervously paddled really hard... I caught it! As I glided with the wave I felt a love for this amazing sport. I managed to pick the sport up really quick and within a few minutes I was stood up surfing!
The next day, Thea and I used our pocket money to rent 2 surfboards for a little while. We enjoyed surfing very much and were both very good at it. In home school, Thea described it as 'feeling like you are flying on the sapphire, clear, blue water!'
As we have been loving surfing so much, we rented another 2 boards the day after! The surfing spot was so popular, there were around 40 surfers each day! While surfing, we made friends with some young adults from France. We were doing 'party waves' with them (when lots of people catch the same wave and surf together)! At the end of the day we were very tired but excited from all of our surfing!
Thank you for reading this blog post! It was a amazing experience to learn how to surf so I am glad I have got to share it with you! Speak soon, Ava 🏄
