Ava's Tropical Dreams- St Lucia and the Pitons
St Lucia and the Pitons!
| St Lucia Flag |
Over the past week or so, we have been exploring the island of St Lucia! Last Friday, we did something really challenging but fun... We hiked the big Piton!!! We started at 600ft and hiked/climbed 2000ft. It was around 2-3 hours up and 2-3 hours down. We did it with our friends so there was 7 of us+ two tour guides.
Fun facts about Gros Piton:
Only 70% of people make it to the top- most give up halfway or even 3/4 of the way!
This mountain is a volcanic plug not a volcano itself-the volcano imploded and erupted elsewhere (the pitons).
The full height of the Piton (from sea level) is 2619ft! That is more than double the height of the Eiffel Tower!
There is 27 bird species 🐦 as well as many bats, opossoms, rodents 🐀, frogs 🐸 and hummingbirds.
It is millions of years old!
There is a beer named 'piton' after the pitons!
Here is a short, descriptive paragraph my sister wrote for home school:
As the Piton towers above the water, the huge, fluffy trees started to glimmer by the rising sun. The massive, bulky Piton points into the ocean blue sky. The tip is like the end of a rino's sharp, bladed horn.
Well Done Thea!
A few days after we were on our way to Marigot bay. Along the way, we stopped in a beautiful, empty bay for lunch and a swim. Then we continued our journey to our destination. A day after being in Marigot Bay, we payed to go into a five star resort for the day. It was really fun to us the lovely pools and the deck chairs. The next day, we filled up our water tanks and then set off to the next bay- Rodney Bay. In Rodney Bay, we went on the dock to get our sail replaced.

Lovely photos and facts Ava! Great job on the descriptive paragraph Thea, very poetic. We hope you’re having a wonderful time and would love to see photos of the hair (we saw Thea’s but haven’t seen Ava’s!) - keep up the blog, we love reading about all your amazing adventures. Love Flic, Steve, Penelope & Matilda xx
