Ava's Tropical Dreams- New Friends, New Toy
New Friends, New Toy
The last week or so, we have had so much fun! A few days ago, we moved up to St Pierre (a bay on the west coast of Martinique). While being there with some of our old friends, we also made lots of new friends. I love living on a boat as every bay we go to we find it so easy to make new friends as everyone is experiencing the same amazing journey.
ZOO DAY!
One day, lots of families went to a nearby zoo! There must have been around 10 children and 10 adults! We all had so much fun looking at raccoons, monkeys, flamingos and more. It was really cool to see the difference between zoos in the Caribbean and zoos in Europe- there were no giraffes or elephants as they can not get them out to the islands very easily. Amazingly, the zoo has been built inside the ancient ruins of the town of St Pierre. The whole town was destroyed when the volcano, Mount Pelee, erupted in 1902 burning every building to the ground. The eruption killed 29,000 people with only 3 survivors, one of which was locked in a prison which we visited in the picture below.
E-FOIL!
Our new friends have a really cool water-sport toy called an E-Foil. I had been on one before so my friends and I were having lots of fun on it. It is a board with a foil and propeller underneath. There is a remote that when you pull the trigger, you move through the water. You are supposed to stand up and then get the foil partway out of the water. When foiling, you feel like a bird soaring through the sky! We are very lucky as where we were, there was a guy selling one.... We bought it! In the Caribbean, it is really hard to get them shipped so we were overjoyed when there was one for sale near us! It is so much fun!
FORT-DE-FRANCE 🌆
Very strangely, Martinique has a big city! We rented a car one day and went into the city to do some food shopping. It was very weird to see 4 lane highways on a tropical island in the Caribbean! After what seemed like forever wandering around in a humongous food shop with everything written in French, we went back to the boat. I don't think cities belong on islands! This is one reason we have moved to a boat...to escape that!
Thank you for reading this blog post! I love sharing all of our amazing experiences with al of our friends and family. Comments are greatly encouraged 😉!
Speak soon, Ava 😄

Love this post Ava, foiling looks like a lot of fun and you look like a pro already. Also great to hear you can practice your french a little. Do they speak with the same accent as you hear in France or is it different?
ReplyDeleteThank you, yes foiling is so much fun! My french is not good at all! We just hope the person we are talking to can speak english! I think it is a very similar accent. Also lots of people from france visit Martinique.
