Ava's Tropical Dreams- Preparing to go!
PREPARING TO GO!
Over the past few weeks, we have been going from bay-bay having fun with our friends off of 'Lilla Støv', a French Canadian family of four, before they left to Martinique. For anyone not aware, Martinique is a French Island around 11 islands north of Grenada.
A week or 2 ago, my dad went on a work trip to METs (in Amsterdam) for a whole week! This meant we had to stay in Prickly bay on a mooring for 1 week just my sister, mum and I. One day, we took the local bus to the shopping mall. It was an interesting experience! We got to see what it would be like for the locals everyday. We thought it was reasonable pricing as for a one way trip an adult cost $2.50 Eastern Caribbean dollar which is only .70p!!! Even better, a child was half price! The buses are essentially 12 seater vans that travel all around the island. To be collected, you stand on the side of the road or at a bus stop and they will just pull up and ask you where you want to go! To get off, some of the local school girls would knock on the side of the van so that the driver knew where to stop. While on the bus you will be entertained by the really loud Hip-hop music playing at full volume! That wasn't my favourite part. My favourite part was that the locals were so friendly and willing to help us get to our destination. They also like to make sure you are enjoying and having a good time on their island! It truly was an amazing experience!
Before my dad flew out, we had the sail removed from our boat for adjustments. Then, when my dad returned, we took the boat to Woburn bay to have it put back on! However, it's still not quite right, but we can sail with it for the time being. We hung out with our friends off 'Ripple effect II' and had lots of fun jumping off our boat and swimming to a beach on the beautiful private island that we were anchored off. This particular island you could rent if you wanted to spend $250,000 US dollars a NIGHT!!! Does anyone want to go?!

This is Sandy Island, Carriacou where we plan to spend some time after leaving Grenada on November 30th. This will be the first island that we have been to other than Grenada! In preparation to depart Grenada, we have a list of things that need to get done in the next 2 days. We have already started putting boxes of food under the floors! Apparently, this is good storage space used on boats. My mum is planning to buy 24 cartons of milk, which I think is a bit extreme! But we do have cereal every morning. It's special milk, called Long-life, that we don't have to refrigerate until after we open it. It's also delicious!
My sister and I are really excited to head to other islands so we can meet up with our friends who had left a few weeks ago. It will be like a reunion! My parents would say, 'a good excuse to have a party!'
We 'splashed' (the boat was put back in the water) on Thursday and now we are in the home-stretch to departing Grenada. While the boat was on the hard, we stayed in a little apartment overnight in the shipyard. You could even see our boat from the window! Thea and I relaxed the whole day while my parents did the hard work. Our excuse was, 'we would just be in the way if we helped!' So instead, we sat in our cooled, air conditioned room and watched TV, both things we don't have on the boat. As soon as we were back in the water, we moved round to BBC beach (now one of our favourite bays!)
In the next blog, I will be posting to you from Carriacou. Please tune in to see where the adventure takes us!
