Ava's Tropical Dreams- Sails up and off we go!

Sails up and off we go!

As I told you in my last blog, we were going to go sailing on Friday for the first time. If you did not know that feel free to read my previous blog. Anyways, we had lots of fun sailing for the first time. We got to help do everything and I even got to steer for half the time! We went from Wovern Bay to Morne Rouge Bay, known to the locals as BBC beach! I found sailing our boat really interesting as it taught me lots of new things.

When we got to Morne Rouge aka BBC beach, we were amazed at the beauty of the bay. It was the nicest bay we have been in with its crystal, clear water and beautiful, sandy beach! Sea turtles welcomed our arrival as we pulled into the stunning bay. I really like how we move our home as it means that we do not have to pack anything away (apart from the sails) so we can just jump straight in the water once we have anchored!

One day, I spent half a day trying to catch a fish in a bucket πŸ˜‚. My parents told me that I would never catch one. However, while I was swimming, I scared a fish and saw it hide inside a conch shell. As I still wanted to catch a fish, I had and amazing ideaπŸ’‘! I would pick the conch shell up and put it in the bucket (which was on the paddle board and full of water). That was what I did. Thea did not believe I had caught a fish so when it came out the shell I lifted the shell out so that it was just the fish in the bucket. Ta-Da! I caught a fish. I really wanted to keep it as it was blue and yellow and quite small so I was asking my parents if we could have a fish tank on the boat. They told me that the fish would die so I put it back. For anyone who wants to know, the fish was a Beaugregory Damselfish (I did some research)!

After a lovely weekend of playing in the water, swimming to the beach and seeing lots of sea animals- turtles, fish, a starfish and even a stingray- we had to get back to learning. Luckily, after we finish homeschooling we can go swim and play on the beach.

On Tuesday, we decided that we were going to sail to Prickly Bay. We were getting ready to leave (unzipping the sail, turning the engines on, packing things away) when my mum read a message on her phone saying that the boat that had just pulled into Morne Rouge was Lucky Charm. Lucky Charm is our friends boat and a bunch of people from boats in Le Phare Bleu were on it! As all of our friends were on it, we decided to stay the rest of the day. We all swam to the beach and the kids played on the beach while the adults were sat in the beach bar. After going to the beach, everyone came back to our boat for snacks, carrot cake πŸ˜‹, and drinks 🍺🍹🍸🍷. The kids had lots of fun jumping off the bow of our boat!

The next day, we sailed -at last- to Prickly Bay. We set off at 7:30am, 😴, and arrived at around 8:30am. We are going back to Woburn Bay on Friday as our friends are sailing here. We were going to go back on Thursday but we thought we would stay one more night to see them. Also tonight is wing night!

  3. Hi Ava! You probably don't know me but I was a very close friend of your grandma and was introduced to you when you were a baby! Your mum and dad brought to Whidbey Island when they attended a wedding I'm so excited for you to explore the world from a water view. It is so fun to read your blogs and I look forward to them every Friday now. Reading your descriptions brings back wonderful memories of our grandma and me as spent many times on those beaches and water. I remember swimming with the sea turtles as you just did. And amazing that you figured out how to catch that damselfish! Homeschooling couldn't be any better!

  4. Amazing Ava....you caught a fish. I remember when we were in turkey you were so determined to catch one but didn't quite manage it. Your blue fish was super pretty and I bet Thea squeeled with surprise when she saw it come out of that shell. πŸ˜‚ Have you been snorkeling what's your favourite sea creature that you have seen so far? Has daddy had you swaying the decks yet? Missing you lots - say hi to Thea for me too. Xx

    1. My parents told me I would never catch one but I did! Yes of course Thea screamed with surprise when she saw it! We have snorkeled lots and my favourite animal has definitely been a massive leather back turtle we saw while we were at the underwater sculpture park (I will tell you about it in this weeks blog). No daddy has not made us do any cleaning yet, but he wants us to do a cleaning week where we have to polish the decks! No one is excited! Missing you lots- Ava xx
